Needing to get the backdrop on the yard side of The Central End module going, I decided to try to visualize what it might look like using an image captured from Google Earth.
Not taking that much care, I simply zoomed into a section of the view over the Union Pacific Albina yard in Portland, screen captured an image and printed it out on my printer. The scale seems off a bit but not too bad for a quick sample of what might be possible. I've tried a couple of times to find a reasonable photo spot to capture a similar view, the Overlook Park being the most likely location, but its not all that easy to capture enough of a linear scan across the yard to put together a good photo image covering the length of my backdrop surface. The idea of using images captured from Google Earth has some merit although image resolution is clearly lacking but possibly that can be adjusted a bit with a photo app and having less detail in the backdrop might be appealing.
More experimentation needed :o)
