A couple of weeks back, the Great Train Expo came through Portland and as usual, the Cascade Z Modelers hosted a Z-scale exhibit. Unfortunately some of the older modules that we brought to set up at the show didn't behave from the start and after a couple of hours of frantic debugging, we decided to break up the layout into two separate layout arrangements in order to isolate the problem. Coming out of this experience, I've decided that I need to make another end module.

Checking out an NCE system
Well, thanks to my friend Jerry C., I've got an older NCE Powerhouse Pro system in my hands to try out. I'll share today what I've learned about setting up and using it. As part of that setup, I have also added JMRI via an old notebook that I had and have even used my Samsung S3 phone as a remote throttle :0).

Cascade-Z-Modelers (CZM) intend to exhibit at the 2015 National Train Show
Given that the National Train Show is scheduled for this summer in Portland, Oregon, CZM has applied and hopes to be present to exhibit as an operational Z-scale modular layout along with some BYOZ (bring-your-own-Z) table exhibits. We also expect to share space with many of our west coast friends with Z-club participation covering Washington, Oregon and California.
I fully expect having the Canyon Module plus my 30° module operating in the group's layout. What is still a bit of an unknown is whether the Central End Module will be ready for its second public appearance, its first being part of the exhibit we did for the February 2007 WGH on Tour show in Portland. With the complete re-working of the turnout control system on the Central End well underway, my plan is certainly to get the module operational and reliable in time for the August event.
New website for Brad's Z-Activities
Having had to recover and move my web content between multiple ISPs over the years (old site show left) and with a renewed interest in developing the content, I've recreated the site on Squarespace.com.
