A major decision made ...

As I close in on having to install all of the electrical wiring, I've made the decision to "simplify" my life by going with DCC.  Some might argue the point about simplification but being certainly quite comfortable with digital computing, that side of things is likely a minimal challenge.  The simplification of that I speak relates to the complexity of the wiring and block control switches that I would have to install on the Central End module.

Shown is my original electrical plan.  It is based on DC layout operation with numerous track blocks, each individually switched such that I could park locos on "dead" sidings while still operating locos in the sections of track that were still "live".  My original plan also called for having the yard as a separate district, the power of which derived from either mainline power or a separate yard power source.  The power derived from the mainline would be reduced using a potentiometer (POT) so that I could bring a train in from the mainline and stop it within the yard district, all the while other trains still on the mainline's DC power could continue at speed.  Once off of the mainline, the train would be switched over to the yard district power for breaking down the consist, etc.  Similarly, trains would be build up in the yard and eventually brought out to the mainline in between other trains operating on that mainline.

Going with DCC instead of DC will simplify the plan by eliminating most of the electrical switches. The track blocks remain but now most of them can be simply wired in parallel.  Having the yard district separate from the mainline will be maintained as well with a separate booster used for the yard district to help maintain isolation from the mainline if perchance a mishap occurs in the yard. Important to remember is that this mainline likely goes across multiple layout modules and in a public show venue, continuous operation on the mainline should be maintained as best a possible.

So, with the major decision behind me, my dilemma is choosing which DCC system to invest in :o)
