While we've able to run many a train across the canyon bridge without it, a construction crew finally got funded to address this weakness :0). Fact is, not having the support pier installed made it a lot easier to work in the canyon during its scenic development but now that that is essentially done, the pier was needed to complete the bridge.
Now at least I won't get all of the folks at train shows that had to point out that my bridge was likely not up to appropriate engineering standards.
The pier was scratch built from a mix of plastic truss and angle braces. The base was custom formed to resemble a concrete foundation.
The view below captures that full bridge in all of its glory.
