The rise of a forest

The module has progressed significantly on the landscaping side of things.  Most notably, the tree count has gone up significantly with the addition of at least 200+ custom trees made using a technique taught to us by a fellow CZM member (Loren S.).  Of course I couldn't leave well enough alone as I went on to develop a multi-trunk variant that I've used for a number of deciduous trees on the layout, one of which is just visible in this photo ... look just to the left of the mainlines at the entrance to the module.  One of the reasons for making my own trees is the cost savings ... although it certainly makes it a lot more work ... I'm thinking that my cost per tree has decreased by better than a factor of 10.  More on making trees in my next note.

Here is another view where the increase in tree count is quite clear.  A number of the trees in these photos are still of the group of trees that I bought awhile ago but I've been mixing in the new trees to add some variety.  Compare this photo and the first one in this segment with those published in the last update and you'll see what I mean ... but wait, there's more to come!

You'll also note in this picture some of my latest additions on the train side of things.  That's a new Micro Trains GP-35 getting a workout pulling a series of new Uncle Will's cylindrical hoppers.  (I suppose I should have been running the UP Geep rather than the "visiting" Santa Fe Geep!:o)
